Aromatherapy Part 1

Aromatherapy is an old form of traditional and alternative medicine. The term aromatherapy was formulated by a by French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse in the 1920's. He used the term to describe the practice of using essential oils for the use of healing of ailments. The term basically means "treatment using scents". The essential oils are often added to the bath or massaged into the skin; some are inhaled directly or allowed to diffuse scent to the entire room. Common therapeutic uses of aromatherapy include relief of pain, care for the skin, alleviate tension and fatigue and increase the energy. Essential oils can affect the mood, alleviate fatigue, reduce anxiety and promote relaxation. When inhaled, they work on the brain and nervous system through stimulation of the olfactory nerves. We have the capability to distinguish 10,000 different smells. The healing power of essential oils is the main attraction in aromatherapy.
